Alright, my friend requested this and I though it might be fun to make a small guild on how to make a ‘successful’ ask blog…
I’m not saying that you will have a billion followers following these guidelines, nor do you have to do everything to the point, this is just to help people who want to make one but haven’t got the slightest cool on how to start. So, let’s get right to it:

Starting a blog:
1. Make a new email/ use a second one.
- Now, I know you’re thinking “Why can’t I just make it a second blog on my existing tumblr?” Well, you can, but I’ve found it’s much easier to just create a new email, since only your main blog can reblog, follow, ect. I’ll explain more in a few steps how important following and reblogging can be.
2. If you haven’t already decided, decide on WHAT you want your ask blog to be about.
-Alright, so you’re starting off. If you haven’t picked a character, Original character, ect to make an ask blog for by now, it’s best to figure it out here.
It’s preferable to make an ask blog of something that isn’t too low on the radar or won’t have interesting answers: For example, doing a blog on Rock # 3 in the background of some cartoon is not going to bring anything interesting to the table, unless you can give that damn rock some epic personality and breath life into it.
3. The name
-God knows the name is how you’re going to be known by, think of a perminent name, something that everyone will know you by.
For example, “AskDrunk——” always is a memorable name, since everyone loves drunk characters. Don’t just name something and not show us it though, for example, if a blog is called “AskDitzySlenderman”, it has to be a ditzy Slenderman to the core; He can’t suddenly be a serious, scary-ass monster that wants to eat children night and day. Which leads to my next point:
4. STAY IN CHARACTER.
-Alright, I know this one’s a little hard at times. I’ve broken this rule some times, I guess. We all can. But unless you can keep a pretty consistent personality, ex: My ask Slenderman’s a gentleman most of the time, it’ll end bad. Really bad.
Getting Known:
Alright, so these are the things I’ve found very useful for getting the name of a blog out there, or getting people to actually come to you:
1. Following blogs of similar nature/content.
-This one, despite how obvious it sounds, it really does help. If your blog is a My Little Pony ask blog, following every MLP blog you can think of helps a ton. A lot of people follow back or check out a bit about their new follower, getting you a bit of attention already. Some even thank you via their blog, letting their followers all at least get a peek at you on their dashboard. You never know when one will check you out.
2. Reblogging
-Reblog pictures that fit with the theme. Whether they are pictures of what your blog is (Like let’s say it’s an AskJackSkellington, reblog TNBC stuff), or the interests of the character (My Slendy likes cats… So I reblog cats once in a while. ^.^’)
3. Interaction is key
-Don’t just answer questions, it gets boring. Interact with those you follow, like ask them questions, or at least drop by their ask box and say “Hi”.
Interact with your followers too. Get to know them if you want. You don’t have to do this, but a big reason on why a lot of ask blogs become popular is because followers are comfortable with them and will ask questions, if not to at least say “Hey, how you doin?”
4.Capture interest.
-Be interesting. Come up with creative, in character answers. Cthulhu knows if you’re asked a question like “What’s your favorite activity?”, and you’re… Let’s say a Murderous Mulan blog or something, irony can be pretty funny like “I like to grow bonsai…” With a picture of Mulan tending to a bonsai with a bloody knife.
You don’t even need to use pictures all the time, as long as the answers satisfy OR create more curiosity to keep the questions rolling.
5. How active you are.
-Activity is important. If you know you are going to be gone for months on end, don’t bother making the blog in the first place or if you’ve already made it, inform your followers of your hiatus, but generally be active when and if you can.
6. Roleplaying…
-Is a bit of a moot point. Not all your followers will stand for it, and you will lose them once in a while, but for the followers who stand it and even love it, it’s encouraged.
Just remember not to let your post get like this —-> |||||||||||||
That is annoying and just takes up space.
Just remember, you are an ask blog, not an rp blog, so don’t forget to answer questions. Roleplaying is best for slow, question-lacking days.
7. This is the most important tip…
-Have FUN. Don’t just run an ask blog to run one. When you’re not having fun or in a good mood, it reflects on the character. Nobody wants a bad-mood moderator.
Do the ask blog because it’s fun, it’ll keep both you and your followers entertained, it’ll become something special to you…

The Ask Hub.
How it works is that the Ask Hub will list and tag everything in alphabetical order under different categories. As for the Asks on the list, either the Ask blog asks to be listed (Preferably the Ask blog linking the Ask Hub somewhere on their blog as a return of favor, this is optional though), or I beg them to let me list them. If they don’t want to be listed, then I’ll honor that wish for whatever reasons they have.
Oh, and by alphabetical, it would work with, for example, AsktheSlendy falling under C of Creepy Pasta, or an Ask GLaDOS under P of Video Games, for Portal.
Ask away with a link to your blog if interested, listing where it’s from and if it’s an OC, Video Game, Creepy Pasta, TV Show, Movie, Lit, ect.
There’s not much rules besides that, except that if your blog contains content NSFW, inform me so I can put a * next to it. * will mean NSFW.

Listed by NAME OF BOOK
Ex: An Ask Darren would fall under C for Cirque du Freak, or T for The Darren Shan Saga, depending on which one the Ask mod requested.
